a bit of writing and a bit of shopping…

This week I’ve been extremely busy organising things for our university website, Silhouette. Take a look now for your dose  of fashion, beauty, health and fitness…

I’m writing various different articles for the site so am wanting some interviews to go with them. So, I’ve been contacting people trying to organise these interviews; which is more trouble than it seems as people tend to not respond or take a very long time too. I’ve also been out vox popping people about topics, which is also difficult as it’s very hard to find people willing to talk into a Marantz (a voice recording machine).

But, I did manage to do a spot of shopping too, which had to be done really. After all of that I just wanted to get home, sit down and have a cup of tea. Sound like an old woman!

I was really impressed with Primark. There was so much that I wanted to buy. I do find that with Primark; sometimes I don’t like anything, and other times I want absolutely everything. It’s a bit hit and miss for me. Course you can always rely on Primani for jewellery, underwear and shoes….all accessories really.

This is what I bought….

At £8 I could hardly go wrong with this pleated colour block skirt. Although I did get it home, try it on and it was minuscule on me, even though it was my normal size. Strange! I couldn’t even get it over my knees. So, I am traipsing back to Primark to get a bigger size. Think it will look nice as a high waisted skirt, plus it’s a bit different so wanted to give it a try.

This horse patterned  dress was only £5. I couldn’t believe it. It will make a nice summer dress, or to wear casually with some tights and a waist belt, or even on a night out with some heels. Three outfits in one!

This cute little floral heart shaped necklace was only £1.50 and these three rings were just £2.50. I didn’t really like the cream one as it looks a bit tacky with a diamante in the center of it, but that one broke anyway when I got it home, so it didn’t really matter.

Overall I was very pleased with my 4 purchases, only coming to a grand total of £17. I can’t justify spending that on one item,…but 4 items I can!

I had my first physio appointment this morning…..and I can drive again. wooohooo. I am so happy. I miss my little car. I have some exercises to do 20 times a day and probably won’t ever be able to straighten my arm again, but least it’s not vital in life!

I also went to buy 2 more Soap and Glory things today, I am slightly addicted. After getting absolutely loads for Christmas, I could open up my own shop.

and that’s not it all…

I’ve got this back at my uni house, plus some more things which I’ve got 2 of.

Think I’ve got enough to last me at least a year!

Look out for interviews on http://misssilhouette.wordpress.com/ with BBC’s ‘The Clothes Show’ presenter, Caryn Franklin, Plus size model, Katie Green and CH4’s Beauty and the Beast psychiatrist, Dr Laxmi Kathuria! Coming Soon…

A weekend in Brentford Town…

8 Feb

I spent this weekend visiting my boyfriend in Brentford, London. I had a really good weekend. We stayed in a holiday inn (which I had no idea were so nice), got taken out for meals with my boyfriend and his parents, went to their family friend’s party AND also got to see the sights of Brentford. It was lovely.

I arrived in London and got the tube to Oxford Street to wait for him to finish work. Obviously to kill some time, I browsed the shops and ended up buying these…

These were from Miss Selfridge and as they were offering 20% off for students I got them for £17.60.

After he had finished work we got the long tube journey out to South Ealing and then a bus to Brentford to the family friend’s house he is staying at- one of which is a Michelin star chef. We had a lovely home made curry, he gathered his things and we made our way to our hotel.

We had a nice relaxing night, watching TV in our room and then having some drinks at the bar. We woke up Saturday, got ready and then had a walk around Brentford. His parents and sister were joining us on the Saturday so we could all go to the party together so we waited for them to arrive.

We then made our way to the party which was in a little pub in Chiswick. We arrived at about 3 and were drinking and chatting until 10…it was a very long day. After the party we then went to a nice Indian restaurant, ate some more food, drank some more wine and then made it back to the Holiday Inn for a nice sleep.

The Sunday was pretty much more of the same. We went to an Italian restaurant across the river from the hotel and ate some more and drank some more, before making our way home later that evening.

A very unhealthy but equally good weekend 🙂

Here’s a few snaps….

As part of a module at university, we have to design our own website/blog based on a particular subject. Being in a group with three other girls with similar interests, we have chosen to base our site on Fashion, Beauty, Health and Fitness.

Our aim is to create a site for women aged between 18-25 interested in these subjects. We will be posting news stories, features, interviews and everything associated with fashion, beauty, health and fitness for the next 3 months.

So, if you’re interested then please have a look at our site: Miss Silhouette

Also follow us on twitter here.

And ‘Like’ us on Facebook here.

A little trip to a girls heaven…

31 Jan

I decided to pop back home this weekend…and I’m very glad I did.

As my friend was going to London town for the day on Saturday to meet up with some friends, I used it as an opportunity to have a nice day out with him, to do a bit of shopping on Oxford Street and to also visit my boyfriend who’s working there at the minute.

So, we jumped on a train Saturday afternoon and made our way to Laaaandaaaan.

Here’s me on the train wearing my H & M leopard print scarf, my Topshop cream rose border vest, black H & M cardigan and my Topshop leggings. Oh, and my nice white full length arm cast from ‘Hospital’.

As we got to London we thought we would catch the tube to Camden Town and had a drink in a pub called ‘The World’s End’. It was a very big pub, with a lot of different people in it….which makes London the fascinating place it is – the variety of different people in it.

After our little stop off at Camden we headed to Oxford Circus. Obviously, the first place I wanted to go was Topshop…which is what I would call a girl’s heaven. As we crossed the road over to Topshop, we saw lots of police vans, policemen with helmets on and a police helicopter in the sky. We walked into Topshop and just as we entered, a line of policeman stood outside the doors, stopping anyone from entering or leaving.

I was baffled, but I was too excited to hang around so I went off to start my shopping.

Next thing a tannoy announcement said, “For your own safety, please do not exit the store using the main exit. Please find a member of staff to guide you to a fire exit.”

I then heard one girl say to her friend, “Apparently loads of protesters are planning on coming in and smashing up the whole of Topshop.”

I felt quite scared after I heard her say that, as who could do such a thing to such a pretty place. But I carried on shopping and ended up buying these two tops…

I bought the blue exposed zip back vest for £28 and the red floral zip pocket vest for £30.

But thanks to student discount I got the two for £52.20!

After an hour of wondering around the store, we were now allowed to leave out of the main exit. Police were still guarding the doors and as we walked out there were a line of protesters sitting on the floor. It seemed like there were a lot of police for the amount of protesters, as there didn’t seem to be many. Turns out they were campaigning against Philip Green, the owner of Topshop about his tax avoidance.

Click here to read more about the story from December 4th 2010 when over 200 protesters took over the Topshop store.

Click here to see a video from 29th January when they aimed to do the same thing, but thankfully failed with the amount of police around, all ready and prepared.

But, after all that it was an enjoyable day.  🙂

a few little things to cheer me up…

26 Jan

Obviously due to my broken arm, I’ve been feeling a little down recently-so what better to do than a bit of shopping to put a smile back on my face.

and here’s all the things I’ve been buying over the past few weeks…

A chunky cream knit cardigan from New Look.

A one sleeved Peacock feather pattern dress from Missguided.

Some beige suede heels with a shiny silver stiletto from River Island.

A grey military winter coat from Next. (which I’m still waiting for)

A navy striped top from H & M.

A leopard print scarf from H & M.

A black skinny waist belt with gold detailing, also from H & M.

A cream rose border vest from Topshop.

And finally this one shoulder jewel top I found in the Topshop sale for only £10.

the beginning…

26 Jan

My first blog! It’s a bit nerve-racking actually. I’ve never actually thought about blogging until I created a fashion blog for my Applied Project at Uni. I really enjoyed it so have decided to create a new one which isn’t going to be marked and go towards my degree. Phew.

Basically, I love fashion and I also love writing about it so this is what this blog is going to be about.

I’m 22 from a little city called Peterborough. Not the most exciting place but it’s home. I love my friends and boyfriend, they never fail to cheer me up. I also love shopping, which also never fails to cheer me up.

I like watching soaps and listening to all kinds of music (apart from Country/Western and Opera/Classical). I’m really into Elle Goulding, Adele and Marina and the Diamonds at the minute. These are all being played over and over.

I drink a lot of coffee in the morning and a lot of tea at night.

I’m very tidy and hate sitting around being lazy.

I also broke my arm on NYE, so didn’t even make it to 12 o’ clock which I was sad about.

Not a great start to my new year, but I’m hoping there will be good things to come.
