C C C Couture…

30 Jan

This week marks one of the most expensive weeks on the fashion calender – it’s Paris Couture Week.

The world’s most beautiful and expensive dresses took to the catwalk, with Alexis Mabille kick starting the show.

White was a key colour in his collection, with a splash of colour every now and then. It was couture heaven. A real summery collection, using delicate, flowy materials.

Christian Dior was never going to let us down, left in John Galliano’s talented hands. Metres of fabric were used to create sophisticated Dior looks from the 40s and 50s and definitely showed the meaning to couture. Pastel colours mixed with bold reds and blacks along with the stunning gowns created this beautiful collection.

At a more subtle end of the spectrum was Chanel. Icy pastel shades of blues, pinks and lilacs took over the runway, with the likes of Kirsten Dunst and Alexa Chung watching from the front row. Delicate and intricate materials were used to create a soft and dreamy look, along with flat patent ballet pumps, messy buns and black chokers.

Jean Paul Gaultier wowed the crowd with his extravagant collection. Moulin Rouge meets 70’s punk seemed to be the theme, with can can skirts, Mohawk hairstyles and lots of black and red.  Haute couture – old school!

Armani’s Prive collection saw embellished dresses made of futuristic materials of rich blues, reds and greens. These were topped with metallic disc like hats created by Philip Treacy. Creating a 70s theme using high glossed fabrics, Armani never fails to impress. Watching the spectacular show were stars such as Jodie Foster, Sophia Loren and Olivia Wilde.

It was a fantastic show, (well so I saw from the pictures), with the most beautiful, exquisite dresses from the most talented designers. Haute couture at its finest.
